Shenstone Library Adult Reading Challenge

Take up our reading challenge for fun and you could win a prize!

Have you ever wondered what book to choose next?

We’ve put together an Adult Reading Challenge to take the stress out of choosing your next book and add a little bit of fun into your reading.  Join in with 2018 Reading Challenge and let the challenge  guide and inspire you with your book choices.  This is the perfect way for both the avid reader and non-readers to either spice up your current reading schedule or maybe even get inspired to read a some books you’ve always avoided.

How to Join in

To complete the challenge, simply choose a book that matches the criteria outlined in our 2018 Reading Challenge guide for that month, read it and complete either a reading challenge monthly card or the form at the bottom of this page.

Win a Prize!

Each month all of the entrants will be added into a a pot and a one member will be drawn at random and receive a £3 Shenstone Library Coffee Shop Gift Voucher so you can treat yourself to a cuppa and slice of cake.

While you can choose to either complete the whole challenge or dip in and out on a monthly basis, we’ve lined up a lovely prize for one lucky Shenstone Library member who completes the entire challenge, a Christmas Hamper!

So if you join in on any of the months, don’t forget to pop in to the library and fill out a Adult Reading Challenge Card or send us your entry using the form below.

Adult Reading Challenge Book List

  • January: Your Last Book of 2017 or First Book of 2018

    This month you can enter any book of any genre.  But it has to be either the first book you read this year, or the last book you read in 2017.

  • February 2018: Spiritual, Carnival or Religious

    February’s book can be either religious and spiritual or it can feature a carnival or circus.

  • March 2018: A Book by a Female Author

    To celebrate International Women’s Day, this month we’d love you to read a book by a female author.  It can be fiction, on-fiction and any genre you’d like so long as it’s written by a woman.

  • April 2018: Food and Drink

    This month, you can pick any book that features food and drink, or it can be restaurant or even Coffee Shop based!

  • May 2018: Film & TV

    This month read any book that’s been adapted into a film or a television programme or series.

  • June 2018: Award Winners

    During June you can pick a book that’s won a literary award.  This could be either a Man Booker Prize, Pulitzer, Costa or any established award.

  • July 2018: Brand New Genre

    This month, we think it would be the perfect time to try and brand new Genre that you’ve never read before.  It doesn’t matter what genre it may be, as long as it’s your first foray into it.

  • August 2018: An Easy Read

    Seeing as it’s Summer, we’d love you to pick up a nice easy read that’s guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

  • September 2018: Non-Fiction

    After a relaxing Summer holiday it’s time to recharge and rejuvenate those brain cells, so we’ve chosen non-fiction.  It can be a biography, a history book or even a self help book.

  • October 2018: Fascinating People

    This month we’re concentrating on any books that are on the subject of a person, or people who fascinate you.  Take a look in the biography section for some inspiration!

  • November 2018: Feel the Cold

    Winter’s coming so for this month pick up a book with a Cold word in the title, or even a wintery scene on the front.  If you’re brave enough you can even test your nerves with  chilling ghost story!

  • December 2018: One Day Reads & Short Stories

    With Christmas season in full swing, time can be precious, so how about reading a book that you can finish in one day.  If you’re a super fast reader it can be a full book, but if you’d rather you can pick up a short story or Novella.

Filling in the Challenge Cards

When you’ve completed your book, either ask for a Challenge Card or fill in the form here by the dates specified below.

Each month on the draw dates, all completed cards and forms will be drawn and one lucky member will receive a Coffee Shop Gift Voucher.  At the end of the year, those who have completed a challenge card every month, will be places into the draw.   We’ll then select one lucky overall winner to take home our 2018 Adult Reading Challenge Christmas Hamper.
