Shenstone Library will be open for browsing books and more!
We’re delighted to announce that in line with other libraries in the country, Shenstone Community Library is continuing its gradual reopening and extending more of its services to the public. From 1st October we thrilled to tell you that we should be almost back to our old opening times. We are fortunate to have a Health and Safety professional on our team, and as a Staffordshire County Council Community Managed Library, all our processes are subject to scrutiny by them. Clearly, we will continue to review our processes to ensure that our customers and volunteers are kept safe.
Books & Browsing
Opening the library further means that browsing and taking out books is now possible; books can continue to be ordered with the Order & Collect service and there is also a Grab & Go service with packs of pre-selected adults and children’s books to save having to browse. Our Books at Home service is also now up and running, offering a delivery service for those that cannot make it to the library. (please phone 01543 480 915 for more details).
We have been pleased that our coffee shop has been able to offer its usual coffee, cake and conversation over the summer, and we have now had approval to open the library as well, which is fantastic news. Please note that the coffee shop will continue to close at 12.00 rather than 1.00, and that the library will close at 2.00 on Friday afternoon.
Please do come along and make use of the coffee shop with its usual lovely cakes, and see the gallery, with a new exhibition due in October, as well as accessing library services.
Access to the children’s area will be for one family bubble at a time. There will be a booking system with 2 bookings per hour, 20 minutes each, with 10 minutes to sanitise the surfaces between visits.
It is not possible to run the usual events in the library, but Baby Bounce and Rhyme and Jennie’s Storytime can be found on YouTube and Facebook, and Local History meetings and some book clubs are continuing on Zoom. The computer and photocopier are available on Tuesday and Friday afternoon – don’t forget that you can book a computer session in advance – just phone the library to ask for slot. Please contact the library (01543 480915) if you would like more information on any of these services.
We are only able to offer open our library and coffee shop because of our skilled and committed team of volunteers, and we are so very grateful for their service to the community which is particularly valued during these difficult times. You will understand that we will need to be flexible and to respond to changing situations, and so our opening times. may be subject to change.
